Mr. Shafiq Stanikzai, the Chief Executive Officer of Afghan Cricket Board called on Ambassador Abdali on 21st July 2017 at the latter’s office.

The aim behind this meeting was to seek the Afghan Embassy’s support to help further strengthen India-Afghanistan's cricket ties and to discuss the existing opportunities for the Afghan Cricket team after obtaining its full membership in International Cricket Board (ICC) this year.

At the outset, Mr. Stanikazi thanked the Afghan Embassy for its usual cooperation in facilitating opportunities for the Afghan National Cricket team and sought the Embassy’s support in exploring more opportunities for the Afghan Premier League (APL). He requested the embassy to obtain India’s collaboration in assisting with the APL and also solicit their players to play for the APL.

Ambassador Abdali congratulated the team for its full membership in ICC once again and described this achievement as a historical move in Afghan sports.  The Afghan Ambassador assured the CEO of the Afghan Cricket Board of the embassy’s full support and cooperation and affirmed that the Afghan Embassy will continue to explore and seek more opportunities for the national team as well as the APL.

At the end, both sides exchanged views on Afghan Cricket Board’s future plans and discussed possible opportunities in the ground.
