The Afghan Army chief of staff, General Qadam Shah Shahim visited India from 29 August to September 2nd, 2016 to discuss enhancement of bilateral defense ties and military cooperation with Indian officials.

During his four-day visit to India, Afghan Army chief met his Indian counterpart Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag, Air Force chief Air chief marshal Arup Raha and Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba.

General Shahim also met Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Ex-Army Chief VK Singh and National Security advisor Ajit Doval .

During his visit the Afghan Army Chief paid a visit to Indian Military Academy where he interacted with Afghan cadets undergoing training. Besides, he visited 50 Para Brigade in Agra, Rajputana Rifles Regimental Center and National Defence College in Delhi.

Increment in providing education and training to officials and soldiers of the Afghan National Army was also discussed in his meetings with Indian officials.

During his visit to India the Afghan Chief of Army Staff was assured by Indian government of further military assistance to Afghanistan.
