H.E. Dr. Abdullah Abdullah Chief Executive officer of Afghanistan arrived in India for a 4-day visit on March 13, 2015.

On the first day of his visit H.E. Dr. Abdullah called upon India’s Vice President H.E. Hamed Ansari at his residence. During the Meeting Dr. Abdullah was accompanied by Ambassador Abdali and Ambassador Said Tayeb Jawad Senior Political and Foreign Policy Advisor to the CEO.

In this meeting the two sides talked about the two countries’ bilateral relations and issues of common interest and concern.

Later that day, Afghanistan’s CEO and his accompanying delegation participated at India Today Conclave 2015, where he spoke about the formation of the National Unity Government, the country’s current situation and priorities of the administration.

Speaking about the formation of the National Unity Government Dr. Abdullah termed it a ‘need’ for Afghanistan.  On the country’s situation H.E. Dr. Abdullah said Afghanistan is faced both with challenges and opportunities, emphasizing that they are of regional and international nature and that collective engagement in the latter would naturally help overcome the former.  His speech was followed by a Q&A part.

On the second day of his visit, the country’s CEO spoke at Vivekananda International Foundation where he briefed the participants on the current situation in Afghanistan including the end of transitions, focusing on the issue of security.

On the third day of his visit, H.E. Dr. Abdullah spoke at O. P. Jindal University in Sonipath, Haryana.  The session was attended by the faculty members and students of the institution, members of diplomatic community and media.

Speaking about Afghanistan’s progress H.E. Dr. Abdullah focused mainly on education and the National Unity Government’s mandate in the area.

On the last day of the visit, Indian Foreign Secretary H.E. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, accompanied by Ambassador Amar Sinha and Joint Secretary of PAI Division Mr. Rudrendra Tandon, called upon H.E. Dr. Abdullah at the Embassy of Afghanistan.

Before leaving back for Kabul Afghanistan’s CEO H.E. Dr. Abdullah met Afghan Diplomats at the Afghan Embassy.  He talked about the strategic relations between Afghanistan and India encouraging the embassy staff to do their utmost towards the strengthening of the ties.
