On 9th February, a group of 96 members of the Upper House of the Afghan Parliament, headed by Honorable M. Alam Ezedyaar, First Deputy Speaker and Rafiullah Gul Afghan, Second Deputy Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament, arrived in New Delhi for an experience exchange program on parliamentary affairs and meeting with their Indian counterparts. On February 11, the group met with the members of Rajya Sabha of India who welcomed the Afghan team and discussed their agenda of visit. Later on Mohammad Alam Ezedyaar delivered his speech to the members of the Indian Parliament. The Program of the Afghan Parliamentarians and Senators was followed by:


1. Questions pertaining to Parliamentary proceedings, agendas and other important issues.

2. Visiting the houses (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha).

3. Learning about the legislative process of India.

4. Touring the Indian parliament museum.

5. Learning about the roles and duties of Rajya Sabha, parliamentary amenities, process of the approval of budget in the parliament of India and the system of the committees inside the Indian parliament.


Following, as per the program, the Afghan Delegation was invited for a lunch, hosted by H. E. Salman Khurshid, Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India. The Embassy of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan welcomed and hosted a dinner for the Afghan Senators and officials of PAI Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. The Afghan delegation left India on February 17 and 18 in two groups.
