Dr. Shaida Mohammad Abdali, the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to India spoke as a distinguished ambassador at the “Study in India” website launch held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on April 18, 2018.

An initiative by the Union Government-India to attract more foreign students to India by projecting 160 premier universities and institutes, including IITs and IIMs, as an ideal destination for higher education. The “Study in India” website was launched by Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs and Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resource Development-India.

Congratulating India for taking such promising initiative, Dr. Abdali highlighted on the importance of this web portal and added: “It will mark new heights for Afghan and other foreign students in providing contemporary insights and a clear direction in various fields of education in different varsities in India.”

Terming India as the favorite education hub for Afghan students, the Afghan Ambassador referred to the India-Afghanistan bilateral cooperation in terms of education under ICCR, ITEC and various other scholarship programmes offered to Afghan students, reflecting India’s assistance on broader spectrum.

Underlining the major updates and developments of educational system in Afghanistan, Dr. Abdali solicited the Government of India to cooperate in building modern schools and universities all over Afghanistan too.

Currently, India is offering 1000 scholarships to Afghan students, while 16,000 Afghan students are studying in different India institutions and universities. Inception of this technology in educational system will undoubtedly help foreign students, including youth from Afghanistan to get an idea about the universities in the context of subjects and careers.
