Dr. Shaida Mohammad Abdali, the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to India called upon Jairam Thakur, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh at the latter’s office on March 9, 2018.

At the outset, the duo exchanged views about the bilateral relations between Afghanistan and India in various areas of cooperation.

Dr Abdali also congratulated the newly elected Chief Minister Shri Jairam Thakur as Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, the Afghan Ambassador emphasized on further strengthening ties between Himachal Pradesh and Afghanistan.

During the meeting, Dr. Abdali proposed establishment of a sister city between Himachal Pradesh and Panjshair province of Afghanistan. The idea was acknowledged and welcomed by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and sought to follow up through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs-Afghanistan in order to finalise a memorandum of understanding about the same.

To further boost the cultural relations between Afghanistan and Himachal Pradesh, the duo also agreed upon organizing a joint food festival.
