To celebrate the 98th anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence, the Afghan Ambassador Dr. Shaida Mohammad Abdali hosted a grand reception on 2nd November 2017, at his residence in New Delhi.

The event was participated by high ranking Indian government officials, members of diplomatic corps as well as Afghan officials and Afghan students studying in India, and New Delhi based Afghan community.

The celebration began with airing the national anthem of both India and Afghanistan after the arrival of the chief guest H.E. Ashok Gujapathi Raju, Minister of Civil Aviation of India at the event.

 In the opening remarks, Ambassador Abdali welcomed the chief guest as well as the participants of the event and added: “While we are here to commemorate the anniversary of independence of Afghanistan, we also celebrate the deep strategic Indo-Afghan ties,”

The Afghan Ambassador also noted: “The depth and strength of this exceptional relationship is manifested in the presence of such a great number of friends present tonight.”

During the event, Afghan artists presented folk dance, Attan and Qarsak which mesmerized the audience. Afghan Independence Day is celebrated by the Embassy of Afghanistan in India every year. The event is marked as a special day with cultural programmes, exhibition stalls that showcases the enriched culture of Afghanistan.
