Introduction:

Economic relation between Afghanistan and India is increasing significantly over the years and moving to upward trajectory. The bilateral trade between India-Afghanistan in 2016-17 stood at $590.1 million with India’s exports to Afghanistan being $377.2 million and imports from Afghanistan worth $212.9 million. Afghanistan’s major exports to India are fresh and dry fruits, saffron, Asafoetida, gums, spices and carpets. Afghanistan’s main imports from India include textiles, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, iron & steel and electrical machinery.

The Embassy of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in India is envisioned to promote economic ties with India through bilateral trade, investments, infrastructure development and creating conducive opportunities for traders, investors, government organizations in setting up a platform for information about trade activities and infrastructure development. Afghanistan-India’s shared vision for sustainable development and cooperation programme has been an important aspect to connect the relation between the two countries.

The Economic Department in the Embassy of Afghanistan-New Delhi aims to boost and encourage trade and investment between Afghanistan and India. It primarily facilitates government-to-government interaction, public and private limited companies, stakeholders, training and development.

The Afghanistan-India strategic partnership is the yardstick in implementing trade and investment policies for both the nations. Keeping in view, the sole objective of strong economic relations between India and Afghanistan, the Economic Section works to enhance trade missions and exploring trade and investment opportunities between the two countries. The department also bridges gap and serves a window for the traders between India and Afghanistan. Traders from both the countries can get connected with the prospective dealers to explore joint ventures for investment. The Economic section also facilitates trade exhibitions, arranging meetings with the respective ministries in India from time to time.
