Tahir Qadiry

Mr. Tahir Qadiry was appointed by H.E. the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as Minister Counsellor and assumed charge as Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the I.R of Afghanistan on 18th June 2019.

Mr. Qadiry is an award-winning journalist who has vast experience of working in big and popular international media. He also served in various international governmental and non-governmental organizations within and outside Afghanistan. He has participated in many international conferences on Afghanistan.

Prior to his appointment in India, he served as Director General of Mitra Global TV network (Nationwide) from 2015 till May 2019.

From 2008-2015 Mr. Qadiry worked as Producer/Reporter/Presenter in BBC Persian TV based in London. During his tenure in BBC he won the prestigious "One World Media Awards", equivalent of Oscars in Media, in London for being a “New Voice” in journalism and leadership, for his creative and in-depth analysis on Afghanistan.  He was also awarded the "Utlesat Award" for “Best Documentary of the Year” in Venice, Italy. Moreover, he has produced/directed/presented more than 10 award-winning documentaries for BBC World TV/Persian TV

Mr. Qadiry started his first job with the BBC Monitoring in Afghanistan back in 2003 – 2008 right after the fall of the Taliban. In addition, he worked as Bureau Chief of Pajhwok, Reuters agencies in northern Afghanistan.

Besides, He also served as ISAF’s political/media analyst in northern Afghanistan.

Mr. Qadiry set up one of the first English and literacy schools in the north of Afghanistan, later followed by launching the first daily newspaper called “Sahar” or the Dawn. He was also the co-founder and Director of Jahesh Charity Organization based in Kabul, Afghanistan, a non-political, non-profit organization working to promote the culture of volunteerism in the society and work as change agents.

Mr. Qadiry holds a Master’s degree in Global Governance and International Public Policy from the University of London, UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Diplomacy & Administration, from– Balkh University, Afghanistan. Also, he obtained a diploma in Journalism and English Language from Swan College, Oxford University, UK and Bilingual Journalist from BBC Journalism Academy. Mr. Qadiry is an alumnus of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) which he attended in 2018.  IVLP is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program.

Mr. Qadiry speaks English, Pashto, Persian/Dari, and Urdu. He is married and has one daughter.
